EAA’s B-17G Aluminum Overcast is featured in Kimberleigh and Paul Gavin’s B-17 Flying Fortress T-shirt design along with high flying B-17 formations leaving contrails in the icy, brilliantly colored cloudy skies. This dark grey heather t-shirt portrays the aircraft’s bombing mission and the long hours of beauty and serenity that were suddenly shattered by short but fierce intervals of attacking fighters and deadly flak. It also illustrates what is meant by the name “Aluminum Overcast” as sometimes there would be so many they would block out the sun. This hand drawn 14-color screen printed design uses the curvaceous nose art figure as the front logo and also displays some of the B-17’s different versions and capabilities. The shirt is a tribute to the aircraft, its builders and maintainers, its pilots and crews and also to the men and women of the EAA who keep these memories alive by ensuring the "Aluminum Overcast”, one of the few still airworthy B-17’s, continues to fly.
